Africa Biosystems Limited is a member of the United Nations Global Compact.  It is our company’s corporate responsibility initiative where we respect and uphold human rights, promote greater environmental responsibility, work against corruption in all forms and is equal opportunity employers with no discrimination in employment, no forced labour or child labour and effectively uphold the freedom of association.

 

Managing Director Yasmin Verjee says, “ABL is a responsible corporate entity and hence has committed to the UN Global Compact principles in line with our company’s principles of being Ready, Reliable and Ethical.”

 

There are 10 UN Global Compact principles we have embraced which are in line with our company’s own ethical values. They are:

Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and
Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
ABL has therefore committed to:
  • Set in motion changes to business operations so that the UN Global Compact is part of strategy, culture and day-to-day operations, including in subsidiaries and the supply chain;
  • Advocate the UN Global Compact via available communications channels;
  • Communicate annually with stakeholders on efforts to implement the UN Global Compact principles, and post this Communication on Progress (COP) on the UN Global Compact website.
