AFRICA BIOSYSTEMS LIMITED MARKS OPENING OF NEW UGANDA BIOTECHNOLOGY OFFICE BY DONATING CUTTING-EDGE DNA TECHNOLOGY TO THE DEPARTMENT OF UGANDA GOVERNMENT ANALYTICAL LABORATORY

Africa Biosystems Limited (ABL) is expanding partnerships and operations into Uganda to bring greater cutting edge technology into the country.

ABL-Uganda was launched at the Sheraton Hotel on Friday 23rd January 2015 in Kampala. The official launch of the company was conducted by Guest of Honour, Dr S. Kagoda, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Uganda. Also present were the directors of the company and Mr. Serge Maurin, distributor manager of Life Technologies, Eastern Africa.

To mark the day ABL is donating a Veriti Thermocycler. It is a PCR machine and amplifies DNA. This is a game-changing piece of technology in the DNA/forensics space. It has been validated for use in DNA Forensics to the Department of Government Analytical Lab (D/GAL), Kampala, Uganda.

The equipment and consumables sold by ABL are transformative in fields that also include food security, quality and safety testing and infectious disease research.

Managing director Yasmin Verjee says “Africa Biosystems Uganda Limited will bring service and support closer to our clients, improve response time of our service to customers; allow us to partner effectively with Uganda on food security, healthcare support and collaborate with government agencies to improve security in the country and region”.

Among those who graced the occasion were: Chief Guest Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Dr S.P Kagoda, and Government officials and representatives from academic and research Institutions.

Some of ABL’s current Ugandan clients, who attended the launch, include the Government Chemist, Uganda Viral Research Institute, Joint Clinical Research Centre- (JCRC) and Makarere University.
